Curious About Session Length, Payment Options, or Insurance?
Check FAQs — We’ve Got You Covered.
Starting therapy can feel like a mix of excitement and uncertainty, and we get it. At JL Family Services, we’re here to make that process smoother, clearer, and more human. Whether you’re scheduling your first session or switching therapists, this FAQ page answers the questions clients ask most — from insurance to intake to what happens if you need a new therapist.
What services do you offer?
We provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy for adults and professionals navigating work-life balance, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions.
What makes JL Family Services different?
We specialize in working with high-performing professionals and BIPOC communities seeking culturally competent care. Our therapists bring expertise and authenticity — because therapy should feel real, not robotic.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions last 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions may be extended depending on your treatment goals.
Do you offer virtual and in-person sessions?
Yes. We offer telehealth therapy across all states we serve and in-person sessions at select locations in Illinois and Arizona.
How often will I meet with my therapist?
Session frequency depends on your goals and needs. Many clients start weekly and adjust over time as progress builds.
We’re licensed to serve clients in:
Illinois, Arizona, Texas, Washington D.C., and Maryland.
Whether you’re local or living out of state, our virtual therapy option makes it easy to stay consistent with care.
Which insurances do you accept?
We work with several major insurance providers. Our intake team verifies your coverage before your first appointment and reviews your copay or deductible in plain language — no billing surprises.
Do you offer self-pay options?
Yes. For clients who prefer flexibility or privacy, we offer affordable self-pay rates with payment plan options if needed.
Do you accept EAP (Employee Assistance Programs)?
Yes, some of our therapists are available for EAP clients. Availability varies by provider, so our intake team can help confirm eligibility.
How do I get started with therapy?
Easy. Complete our Intake Form or contact our intake team. Once received, we’ll:
1. Verify your insurance or self-pay details.
2. Match you with a therapist based on your preferences and needs.
3. Send your intake documents through our secure client portal.
How long does it take to schedule my first session?
We aim to connect you with a therapist as soon as possible — typically within a few days to two weeks, depending on availability.
How do you match me with the right therapist?
We consider your therapy goals, preferences (such as gender, cultural background, or specialty), and availability.
What if I want a new therapist?
No stress — we understand that the first match isn’t always the perfect fit. If you’d like to try another therapist, our intake team can help you switch. We recommend giving it 1–2 sessions before deciding.
How does billing work?
We bill insurance after each session or charge the self-pay rate if applicable. You can view and pay all invoices through our secure
Client Portal.
What if I have a past-due balance?
Our billing department will notify you. Services may pause until the balance is resolved, but payment plans are available to keep therapy accessible.
Where can I find my statements?
All billing details and invoices are available 24/7 through your client portal — we don’t send them by email for security reasons.
Do you offer therapy for children or teens?
Our practice primarily serves adults and couples. However, some clinicians may offer family therapy with teens — reach out to confirm.
Can I request a specific therapist?
Yes, if they have availability. Our intake team will check and confirm if your preferred therapist is accepting new clients.
What if I need crisis support?
If you’re in immediate danger, call 911. For emotional crises, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
